This week ...

I met some of the group for two 5:30 AM runs this week, on Tuesday and Thursday. Both were fine ... it was warm, but maybe we're getting "used" to it.

Nothing out of the ordinary to report on either one.

Tuesday
5 miles
52:26 ~10:29 / mile

Thursday
5 miles
53:11 ~10:38 / mile
I woke up at 5:12 and somehow amazingly made it on time. I'm still impressed with myself.

Saturday
I knew it was going to be hot, but I was still surprised to walk out my door around 6:00 AM and it was already noticeably warm.

We had 10 miles ahead of us and I was a little wary about tummy issues again, but I'm happy to report that everything was great this run.

We did a route with some new parts and some familiar. We did 3 miles on the Hamilton Lakes trail and that was a nice change. We had a couple of people to fall and that is always unnerving that you may be next. I think the rocks and roots just jump out at you.

Heading back on Holden wasn't as hot as I had anticipated and Chip was a great leader and good motivator when we were on that long, gradual hill. I would also like to applaud his ability to move sticks out of the way all while running.

I was Garmin-less this run due to dead batteries, but all in all, I think I ended up a little over 10 miles and around 1:45 time. Not too shabby as it put me right at a 10:30 pace. So, go me. I wasn't sure if I could hang with the "fast" group, but it's nice when someone else (hi Liz) believes that you can.

Saturday
10 miles + a little over, I think.
1:45 ~ 10:30/mile

Thursday and Saturday

Several of us met at 5:30 on Thursday so we could try to finish early (or on time) so we could get started with the rest of our day.

Hot and humid, but all in all, a good run.

Thursday
5.11 miles
53:09 ~ 10:24/mile

Maria wasn't able to run her long run on Saturday, so I offered to go with her on Sunday. Charlie had his 1st marathon training run on Saturday and since he's volunteered or I demanded that I have my group runs intact until Labor Day, I thought it would be nice for him to go with his group.

We contacted another Jane to go with us on Sunday, but she opted to run solo, so it was just the two of us. We decided to do the same route that the group had done on Saturday and by 6:15, we were off.

I felt good all the way into Bur-Mil. Of course, I had my usual moans and groans about certain long, gradual hills and what not, but we were doing well and had settled in. By the time we were to turn around (at mile 5), I was having some tummy issues and luckily, we discovered that there were some port a jons set up for a bike race taking place later that day. Thank you, mountain bikers!

After that little rest, my legs felt like they weighed a ton. It seemed to take forever to get back in a groove again, and then we got to our favorite hills. Ugh. I had to walk some of the hills and that always frustrates me.

Once I got over the last hill and back on the road headed toward GMP, I felt OK. It was getting warm and by now, I felt like every other runner we passed was bounding and looked way too fresh. I wanted to say, "I'm running 10 miles today and we're almost through. I have an excuse why I look this way!"

I was excited to see that we were going to end up hitting 10 miles while still on Grease Alley and by some unknown power, we hit 10 right before the hill. Hallelujah! We also ran into Liz right before this, so at least we were still running and not walking!

It was nice to have a bit of a cool-down walk because we usually don't take the time to do it. I felt OK during this run (with the exception of the humidity and walking the hills), but it took it out of me for the rest of the day. I was done. I did manage to get in some good stretching and I'm happy to report that the first 10 miler of training is done. I'm hoping for no humidity and no hills for our next, but somehow I don't think that will happen. : )

Saturday
10.00 Miles
1:50:00 ~11:00 / mile

Tuesday

We had our first 5 mile mid-week run today. Whoo hoo, we made it. Hot, humid, and a little hilly. It's hard to believe we are about half way through our training. In some ways, it feels like we just started.

My legs felt a little heavy today. I did end up going on a run on Sunday to get in the miles that I missed on Sunday. Maybe back-to-back Saturday/Sunday runs wasn't my smartest idea, but I just felt like I needed a good run to make up for such a crappy run on Saturday.

So here's the stats ...

5.02 Miles
51:33 ~ 10:16 / mile

This week

I had a good run on Tuesday. We were kind of in a pack, with the "fast girls" behind us. Maybe we all felt a little bit of pressure to go faster, but no one passed us and we didn't die. ha.

Tues. July 6
4.54 Miles
46:15 ~ 10:11 / mile

I overslept on Thursday so I missed our group run at 5:45. I had good intentions of fitting it in later that day, but it just felt like work exploded around me. So, I set out on Saturday for our 9 mile run after not running since Tuesday. That was probably my first mistake.

My asthma has also been flaring up the past couple of days and I actually had to take my inhaler during the day (and I never have to do that.) I guess mentally I was worried about the run and if I would have an issue with my breathing.

I took my inhaler and packed it for the run just in case. We started our run and hopped on a trail at the beginning. It was nice to do the trail, but my legs always feel so heavy for a while afterwards. We decided to keep going on the greenway to avoid hills in the park. I felt ok on the way out, but once we turned around I just felt like I lost steam. I gu'ed, but just never felt like I got my oomph back, so I walked for a bit and a few longer walk breaks than I wanted to.

I ended up feeling OK, but just not feeling as good as I wanted or how I usually feel.

Saturday, July 10
9.61 Miles
1:47:29 ~11:11 / mile

Just realized that I haven't been writing about my fuel during runs and I've been on a PB sandwich kick, either on sandwich thins or regular bread and sometimes I'll add 1/2 banana, especially for longer runs or if I'm not taking the last banana in the house. I just can't do that to my girls.

Friday and Sunday

I missed my regular Thursday run and ran our long 9-mile run on Friday morning in glorious cool weather temps.

DW had mapped out a good path for us and it was nice to have a group to run with on Friday, since several of us had early morning plans on Saturday.

Friday, July 2
9.57 miles 1:42:03 ~ 10:39 / mile

Since I had missed Thursday, I still wanted to get that run in so Charlie and I went out with the girls on Sunday morning. Luckily, I didn't have to push the 75 pounds worth of baby + stroller, but I definitely missed our cool temperatures of Friday.

Sunday, July 4
4.00 Miles
40:54 ~ 10:13 / mile

Not too much to report ... the only thing that felt weird was a bit of a tweak in my ankle on the Friday run near the end. We did hop on a trail for about a mile, so maybe I did something then. I didn't feel anything on Sunday, so hopefully it was just an isolated incedent.
